Tatiana Matvejeva,  classical Russian pianist offering Piano lessons in Baltimore, MD

Having played the piano since the age of 7, I have always had a passion for music and a love for the piano.  Before moving to the United States in 2000, I studied classical piano in Dauvgapils, Latvia from 1980 to 1992.  Initially I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Piano Performance, then focused my skills further by obtaining a Master's Degree specifically in piano teaching.  After my formal studies were complete, I went on to teach classical piano at the Daugavpils Music College in Latvia from 1993 to 1999.  .During these 20 years, I accumulated a wealth of knowledge, skills, and teaching experience that has allowed me to become a very effective piano teacher.

Early in my career, I decided to forego opportunities in Switzerland to become a concert pianist since my passion has always been to individually teach students the art and joy of playing the piano.  After moving to the United States in 2000, I continued to offer private piano lessons in Maryland.  Most of my piano students are taught in the comfort and convenience of their own home, although students who do not own a piano elect to take lessons in my home in Severna Park.  My decades of teaching experience has led me to believe that learning to play the piano in a home setting produces the best results since the student is in a familiar environment and receives all of my attention during the piano lesson.  I had previously taught piano lessons at both conventional piano schools and academic settings but found that students were often more easily distracted being in a room with other students.

I now live in Severna Park with my family, and still greatly enjoy teaching piano as it allows me to give the gift of music just as I had done for years in my hometown of Daugavpils, Latvia.  I accept and enjoy working with students of all ages and skill levels.  I am very experienced at teaching students who are just starting to play piano for the first time as well as those advanced students who have been playing the piano for many years.  I currently have students from ages 5 to 75, and generally believe a person is never too young or too old to begin playing this beautiful instrument that can provide many years of joy, personal growth, intellectual stimulation, and personal satisfaction.  I look forward to helping you reach your musical goals, whatever they may be!
